The production of highly innovative work is central to every project’s success. Some of the works our projects produce are powerful communication tools with the potential to influence attitudinal and behavioural change beyond the communities where they originated, slowly and steadily for generations to come. The works are potentially able to influence government policy and resource allocation. So far, we have been successful in raising awareness of issues affecting communities in Australia through screenings, exhibitions, festivals and other events. We know that into the future we would like to approach this more strategically and focus on reaching new audiences, including those in the health, education, and social justice sectors. Going forward, we aim to produce works that can play a powerful advocacy role: works which enable communities to be part of shaping their own identity and allow new audiences to view and understand the issues through a different lens.
Over the next three years, BE’s focus will be on the development of new works in film and digital media, music, dance/performance and visual art. Through the process of creating this new work, BE will be investing in the development of artistic skills for both emerging and professional artists. In addition to focusing on the development of new works, BE aims to raise the bar in this sector for the way in which work is produced, the quality of works produced and how they are presented.
