about us
Beyond Empathy (BE) works with at risk and intergenerationally disadvantaged young people and local community support agencies/workers.
BE uses art to:
- Re-engage young people with their families;
- Promote community awareness of the issues facing participants, address negative stereotypes and build social connnectedness;
- Connect participants with local 'conventional welfare' support services providers, strengthen personal support networks and increase access to support services;
- Build personal wellbeing and resilience and develop personal, basic life and vocational skills; and
- Build social cohesion and influence social change.
BE runs a series of arts intervention, leadership and skill development programs that work with young people over an extended period of time to support personal development and change. The different programs build on one another to provide a supported pathway for participant development.
BE has also been recognised for its work by the Australia Council for the Arts via Community Partnerships as a Key Producer, one of ten organisations nationally.
